Group Meetings

The Office of Student Services sponsors group advising meetings concerning admission to "Professional Education" and "Advanced Standing." Decisions about a student’s advancement through a teacher preparation program at Ohio University, regardless of college enrollment or campus attended, are based on multiple assessments. Decisions are made at various points, including admission to the University, "admission to Professional Education," "admission to Advanced Standing," "admission to Student Teaching" and at program completion.

  • The first of the transition points is termed "Professional Education." Undergraduate students must apply and be admitted to professional education at least one quarter prior to taking any education course (i.e. the course prefix begins with an ED such as EDTE, EDEC, EDMC, EDSE, EDSP). Students must submit a BCII background check. To obtain an application for professional education, students must attend a "professional education advising meeting." Meeting dates and locations are posted throughout McCracken Hall quarterly. Click to view criteria considered for admission to Professional Education and Advanced Standing.
  • The second of the transition points is termed "Advanced Standing." Undergraduate students must apply and be admitted to advanced standing at least one quarter prior to taking any education course at or above the 300 level. To obtain an application for advanced standing, students must attend an "advanced standing advising meeting." Meeting dates and locations are posted throughout McCracken Hall quarterly. Click to view criteria considered for admission to Professional Education and Advanced Standing.
