Aimee Howley
Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Studies

A Message from Associate Dean Aimee Howley

Along with its proud legacy of undergraduate teaching, leadership and service, the College of Education builds on and elaborates a strong tradition of research and graduate education. As the new Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, I am pleased to support this important College mission.

From my perspective, work in this academic domain rests on three fundamental assumptions:

  • The word “research” is shorthand describing a broad mission that encompasses scholarship, inquiry and creative activity.
  • Research provides critical groundwork for all graduate programs—those that prepare candidates for academic careers and those that prepare them for professional roles.
  • A culture supportive of research promotes critical inquiry among undergraduate students, graduate students, staff and faculty.

With these assumptions in mind, I view my role as encompassing work on behalf of a culture of research. This work emphasizes increased productivity through expanded support, on-going dialogue and collegiality, and celebration of accomplishments. In my new role, I am proud to devote my attention to supporting the efforts of novice and seasoned researchers across the College community. I encourage you to contact me to share your ideas about how we might enhance our graduate programs and increase the impact of our research, scholarship and creative activity.

Sincerely,

Jack Bantle and COE faculty at workshop
