The READ Partnership is open to all education majors who have completed the required courses to achieve advanced standing in the field of early childhood education.

Why Become a Member of Our Partnership?

  • East Elementary is a neighborhood school within walking distance from the University; close proximity to Ohio University has enabled the school and university to take part in various partnerships since 1975
  • A chance to interact with the community during extracurricular functions; volunteers from the community compile approximately 4500 volunteer hours per year
  • Inclusive classroom setting with multi-cultural experiences
  • Partnership students given priority for student teaching placements
  • Fellowship position available for post graduate degree
  • Automatic field placement for all methods courses
  • Opportunities to spend field hours in the same classroom at varying grade levels within major
  • Priority scheduling each quarter
  • East practices the philosophies of Integrated Thematic Instruction, Multiple Intelligences and Responsive Classroom
  • East is known as an international school offering English as a Second Language for students representing 31 countries and speaking 17 languages
  • East houses grades K-6, along with Hearing Impaired, Multi-Handicapped, H.O.T.S. (higher order thinking skills), and Learning Disability classrooms
  • East has ongoing enrichment programs such as, Helping Hands, Foreign Language classes, Lego Logos, school magazine, an active P.T.O., and a yearly dinner theatre with entertainment provided by our student body
