Undergraduate
To receive a B.S.Ed. in Special Education and licensure as an Intervention Specialist, students must complete one of the following specialized programs. Click on a program title below to view and save a program information sheet about each specialization area:
The Intervention Specialist programs at both the Mild-Moderate and Moderate-Intensive are Nationally Recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
Students who seek admission into Special Education courses are subject to additional selective admission criteria beyond the college requirements. Enrollment in special education programs is limited . The selective admission process includes review of the prospective student's application to Professional Education, academic record and autobiography. Any student who may be registered in one of four programs of study (Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, Adolescent-to-Young Adult, and Special Education) may add a reading endorsement to his/her license to teach reading in K-12, inclusive. Master's Degree
A Master's Degree in Education with a major in Special Education is available for a teacher license in the following areas: Intervention Specialist for Mild-to-Moderate Educational needs or Intervention Specialist for Moderate-to-Intensive Educational Needs. The College of Education offers a Master's Degree in Special Education with a major in Inclusion Strategies for General Education. This program is specifically designed for professionals who already hold a teaching license and wish to develop knowledge and skills in the adaptation of instruction, and in developing individualized intervention strategies and universal design for learning for students who have exceptional needs. Note: This program is not currently accepting applications for admission.
The College of Education also offers a Master's Degree in Special Education for a teacher license as an Early Childhood Intervention Specialist (ECIS). This program meets the Ohio teacher licensure requirements for teaching youngsters with special needs ages 3 to 8.
