The Department of Teacher Education provides a wide range of programs to support the interests of prospective and practicing P-12 teachers at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Early Childhood program area, shared by the College of Education and the College of Health and Human Services, offers an undergraduate program leading to a teaching license in preschool (age 3) through grade 3.

The Middle Childhood program area offers three types of programs:

Undergraduate programs leading to a teaching license in two content areas in grades 4 through grade 9
Master's programs leading to a teaching license in two content areas in grades 4 through grade 9
Graduate programs (master's and doctoral) that emphasize teaching and learning in grades 4 through grade 9

The Adolescent-to-Young Adult program area (formerly known as secondary education) offers three types of programs:

Undergraduate programs leading to a teaching license in one content area in grades 7 through grade 12
Master's programs leading to a teaching license in one content area in grades 7 through grade 12
Graduate programs (master's and doctoral) that emphasize teaching and learning in grades 7 through grade 12

The Intervention Specialists (Special Education) program area offers three types of programs:

Undergraduate programs leading to a teaching license to work with students with mild-to-moderate educational needs or a teaching license to work with students with moderate-to-intensive educational needs in kindergarten through grade 12
Graduate programs leading to a teaching license to work with students with mild-to-moderate educational needs; a teaching license to work with students with moderate-to-intensive educational needs in kindergarten through grade 12; or a teaching license to work with students with mild/moderate/intensive educational needs in preschool (grade 3) through grade 3.
Graduate programs (master's and doctoral) that emphasize teaching students with mild/moderate/intensive educational needs

Multi-age programs are undergraduate programs leading to a teaching license in art, music, physical education, or modern languages in grades preschool (age 3) through grade 12.

The Curriculum and Instruction programs are graduate programs (master's and doctoral) with emphasis on teaching & learning, instructional design and curriculum development at all age/grade levels. The following specializations are available:
