General Master's Degree
The General Master's Degree program involves a minimum of 48 quarter hours encompassing the study of the foundations of educational leadership, the nature of school organizations, human relations in educational organizations, and research methods and applications. Additional specialized study and field experiences are included to prepare the students for different administrative roles.
The Master's degree in General Educational Administration is intended to provide a program that is responsive to a broad range of needs, including those of individuals interested in the Teacher-Leader and Organizational Leadership Programs. The degree, which has been in existence for several decades, is for the purpose of providing considerable latitude for individual and groups of students in the selection of electives to correspond to their interests and needs.

Teacher-Leader Master’s Degree Program
This five-quarter program, which is part of the General Master’s Degree, is for teachers, who wish to remain in the classroom, become even more effective leaders among their school’s faculty, and obtain a master’s degree. The students meet as a cohort every other Saturday for five quarters.
The program provides its students with an enhanced understanding of leadership, the manner in which their schools operate within the context of a district and community, the dynamics of human behavior among a school’s adult stakeholders, the legal and financial dynamics of a school, and curricular/instructional/learning/assessment matters.
The courses in the program were not developed and cannot be used for principal preparation leading to a license.

Organizational Leadership Program
The Organizational Leadership M.Ed. program, which is part of the General Master’s Degree, offers limitless opportunities for students to enhance their leadership capacities by integrating knowledge and research from education, business, the social sciences, communication, and arts and humanities.
An Open and Relevant Interdisciplinary Program
Practicing and aspiring leaders will develop and enhance their skills and knowledge to work effectively with people, data, and organizational systems. Developed to educate and create leadership skills for application in all types of organizations, the Organizational Leadership Program embodies an interdisciplinary approach to leadership development, focused on enhancing capacities the contribute to leading effectively in almost any field and at all levels of an organization. Graduates of the program will:
* Be effective communicators.
Have a sophisticated knowledge of quantitative and qualitative techniques.
* Be able to apply a holistic approach to solving complex leadership problems.
* Have the skills to understand and critically analyze data.
Understand different leadership styles and be able to apply leadership knowledge in an ethical and socially responsible manner.
* Be able to manage team work, group behavior, group dynamics and group interactions in a diverse environment.
* Understand how the structure, culture and climate of organizations can influence outcomes, and how policy development and analysis can also impact organizations.
* Gain insight into the cultures of organizations, and know how to identify helpful changes.
*Understand effective information technology and project management.
Shape Your Own Experience
The six quarter, eighteen month Master's of Organizational Leadership program is cohort based. The first cycle of the program is scheduled to begin in Spring Quarter 2010, with commencement following the summer quarter of the second year. Required and elective courses are offered through the College of Education, College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences.
Courses
The course load for the program is designed to meet the needs of working students with professional and other commitments. The arrangement involves two courses per quarter for each of the six quarters of the program. The courses are attentive to such topics as leadership, management, organizations, decision-making, behavior, and performance outcomes.
Delivery Model/Number of Class Meetings per Quarter:
* One Friday/Saturday session: 16 contact hours
* Two Saturday-only sessions: 8 contact hours each
* Additional learning experiences to be facilitated through Blackboard
* and/or other electronic communications
